Persistent Identifiers Policy

NJRST supports the use of persistent identifiers to improve the long-term accessibility, discoverability, citation, attribution and integrity of the scholarly record.

Digital Object Identifiers for published content

Where available, NJRST assigns Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to eligible published scholarly content. DOIs provide stable, persistent links to the version of record published by the journal.

The following article types will normally receive DOIs where the journal’s DOI registration arrangements allow:

  • original research articles;
  • review articles;
  • case studies;
  • invited scholarly papers;
  • special issue articles;
  • editorials forming part of the scholarly record;
  • book reviews; and
  • other substantive scholarly contributions selected by the editors.

Each DOI should be registered with appropriate bibliographic metadata, including article title, author names, journal title, volume, issue, publication year, page range or article number, abstract where applicable, references where available, funding information where available and relevant licensing information.

DOI maintenance and resolution

NJRST will make reasonable efforts to maintain DOI metadata so that DOI links continue to resolve to the correct article landing page. Where journal platform URLs change, DOI metadata should be updated to ensure continued access to the version of record.

Authors, readers and indexing services should cite the DOI where one has been assigned.

ORCID iDs

NJRST encourages all authors to register for and use an ORCID iD. ORCID provides a persistent digital identifier that distinguishes individual researchers and supports accurate attribution of scholarly work.

Authors should provide their ORCID iD during submission where available. Where possible, the journal may request authors to verify their ORCID iD through the journal platform. Verified ORCID iDs may be displayed on the published article landing page and included in article metadata deposits.

Institutional identifiers

Where available, NJRST supports the inclusion of persistent identifiers for institutional affiliations, such as ROR IDs. These identifiers help distinguish institutions with similar names and improve the accuracy of affiliation metadata.
